Why ShipMatrix Distribution Services?
While the Teamsters negotiating team and UPS reached an agreement on July 25, the deal needs to be ratified by rank and file. Member voting begins August 3 and concludes August 22. While we expect the deal to be ratified with great majority in favor, just in case it is not and UPS is unable to meet the new demands and Teamsters elect to strike, we will keep our contingency plan in place till end of August.
While other national parcel carriers have excess capacity, some shippers may need alternates. Given that UPS delivers 18 million parcels per day, a diversion of even a few million will require creative solutions to avoid the fiasco of July/August of 1997.
So, just like ShipMatrix helped shippers during peak of 2020 and 2021 when the demand exceeded capacity, we will be setup to support SMx customers with alternatives to keep your products moving. This is being made available only as a stop gap measure during the weeks while the labor issue is settled at UPS. It is not a competing parcel service but an emergency resource to support our shipper and carrier partners.
To support these alternatives, SMx will be fully integrated with partner carriers for visibility, analytics, rate verification and customer communications that our customers have been relying on us for over 2 decades.
